Originally published in 1983, the Tarocchi Guttuso was commissioned by Moda 90 of Trieste, who charged Guttuso with the task of creating a truly 'modern' tarot. Guttuso's illustrations are by turns satirical, 'hip' and erotic.

The Egyptian Tarot from Fournier is yet another of the many Ancient Egyptian-theme tarot decks, but is more attractive than most. The traditional-looking art is illustrated in muted watercolour, and the cards are titled in English and Spanish. It's not strictly a tarot; the minor cards are just numbered 23 - 78 and aren't placed in suits.

A Poet's Tarot is a women-oriented 74 card deck from 1986. It has black and white non-traditional illustrations on one side, and on the back of each card is a linked poem in purple and silver (instead of a universal design). The suits of Sticks, Bowls, Knives and Pens are numbered from 1 to 13 - there's no distinction made for the court cards.

The Pictorial Key Tarot is a modernisation of the Rider-Waite Tarot images, very similar in symbolism to the original but not quite a clone. Created in a computer-generated style, the 78 cards are detailed and reasonably lifelike, but have a slightly perfect, plastic look.

The Egyptian Tarot has 78 cards in typical Ancient Egyptian artistic style, line-drawn in brown on a mottled papyrus-like background. Majors have themed titles and Tarot-like scenes, while the minors have decorated pips in suits of Pentacles, Cups, Swords and Sceptres and courts of Slave, Warrior, Mistress and Master. Designed by Anna Maria D'Onofrio and published by Il Meneghello in 1999, the 78 card "La Corte Dei Tarocchi" is a gorgeous blend of modernized Medieval imagery using mostly traditional, generally Marseille-based tarot archetypes. All card titles in Italian. Produced in a limited numbered edition of 1100. The illustrations have parchment-like backgrounds, water-color-like shading and textured coloring, combined with three different title styles to create an impressive array of nearly tactile images. The thick, tall cards have an 'aged vellum' appearance, as if they were painted in Renaissance or Medieval times.
